One
of the biggest concerns about visiting the townships is ‘voyeurism’
Many visitors appear interested to take a tour of the townships but are
concerned about offending the local residents.
They are run as half day tours (usually scheduled tours
although it is possible to take a private tour if preferred), either in
the mornings or afternoons. On Sunday mornings a visit to a gospel church
service is incorporated into the route.
There are several reasons why you may wish to consider
taking a township tour.
- There is more to Cape Town than the V&A Waterfront,
Table Mountain, Winelands and Cape of Good Hope. A visit is more complete
when you see ‘the other side’
- They will provide you with an extraordinary insight
in how many capetonians live
- You will be made to feel very welcome in the Townships.
There will be also be an opportunity to purchase some locally made craft.
- Entering the townships on a tour is educational and
contributes towards improving the economy of the area.
Please let me know if you have any further questions
about visiting the townships.
